Around the time college students packed up for spring break, my Facebook feed started overflowing with pictures of 'before' and 'after' pictures. Most of the photos were selfies taken by women in sports bras showing off their flat stomachs. Blech.
The worst news: they just keep coming.
When I see photos like that, I feel super sad. I know that every woman who sees those photos will only see how she does not measure up. She has stretch marks. Her breasts are uneven. Her thigh gap is too small.
Then, I feel sad for the woman who posted the photo, because I know she didn't put it up there to express her confidence. Oh no, it's up there in public domain to illicit comments to boost (make up for her lack of) confidence.
So it was with great hesitation that I clicked followed this link to the Huffington Post yesterday...and then shear joy to share it with you (below).
Summary from the Soap Box:
The next time you pack up for a beautiful afternoon in the sun, ditch your worries about how your body looks in a bathing suit. Instead, get ready for sand between your toes and the serenading beat of a drum circle. Concentrate your precious energy on just being who you are. You are awesome. Being confident in that awesomeness is way more beautiful than any body you can starve and sweat your way into.
I mean it.
